Middle Grades Education (M.Ed)

The Master of Education in Middle Grades Education program offered at Georgia College is intended for persons who already hold or qualify for a Georgia Teacher’s certificate.  The advanced level of certification is associated with the completion of the Master of Middle Grades Education degree program.  This program extends and expands the study of the development of young adolescents at an advanced level as outlined in the conceptual framework.  Within the context of the master’s degree program, candidates are exposed to a wide variety of information related to education and work with young adolescents with particular emphasis on deepening their content knowledge, serving as mentors for beginning teachers, advocating for middle grades students in the larger professional community and conducting action research in classrooms.

  • Official copies of all transcripts
  • Admission Exam Requirement: Graduates and students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at Georgia College are exempt from this requirement. Other applicants must provide evidence of one of the following: 
    • passing score on the College of Education Graduate Writing Assessment or waiver as follows:
    • GRE score of 1000 (Verbal and Quantitative combined) if taken prior to August 1, 2011, or 305 (Verbal and Quantitative Combined) if taken on or after August 1, 2011
    • Minimum MAT score of 400
  • Evidence of Georgia Teaching Certificate at the induction or professional level 
  • Verification of immunization

The Master of Education in Middle Grades Education program is a cohort model with candidates beginning in the summer with the first courses offered during Maymester. All courses in this program are partially online, which include face-to-face and online meetings.
